“It is difficult to find up-to-date demographic information regarding the archaeological workforce across the world, but the information that is available does not present a progressive image of the discipline.” – Dr Alex Fitzpatrick FSAScot

For SHSMG's September event, we'll be hearing from Dr Alex Fitzpatrick FSAScot (@ArchaeologyFitz), a zooarchaeologist, researcher and award-winning science communicator & writer who has worked on sites such as the Covesea Caves in the Highlands .

Alex will talk about how social media can be used as part of the push to further diversify archaeology as a discipline. In addition to discussing how these platforms have allowed for many underrepresented archaeologists to become more visible and express their perspectives and opinions, she’ll provide actionable advice such as following those from backgrounds different from yours and providing platforms to people who are more underrepresented in the field.

After the short presentation, there'll be time for a Q&A and general discussion.
