About the Event
Carbon Literacy Training sessions for museums in Scotland. 17 & 23 May, participants must attend both sessions.
Museums Galleries Scotland (MGS), supported by Art Fund, have partnered with Museum Development North West and other UK partners (Museum Development UK). Together we have scheduled Carbon Literacy Courses and Train the Trainer Support Sessions for The Wild Escape (TWE) participants and others who are interested in the training from March to October 2023.
MGS will be delivering Carbon Literacy Training sessions to museums in Scotland on the 17th and 23rd of May. Each day is a half-day session and participants must attend both sessions.
Carbon Literacy participants pledge individual and organisational carbon reduction actions, and as the community of Carbon Literate museum people grows, it will help to accelerate the sector’s response to the climate crisis.
More information will be given to attendees nearer the time.
The Carbon Literacy Toolkit for Museums was developed as part of the Roots & Branches Project. This ambitious, environmentally-driven partnership project between Manchester Museum, MDE, and The Carbon Literacy Project is supported by Arts Council England’s National Lottery Project Grants and aims to promote carbon literacy with these sessions providing a regional focus and tailored materials for Scotland.
This collaboration is passionate about the role that museums can play in addressing the inequalities in our society, including those created by the climate crisis.
The ‘Branches’ of the project is the creation of an environmentally aware museums sector, underpinned by the first sector-specific Carbon Literacy toolkit. This is foundational work supporting staff, volunteers, and partners to build understanding and awareness and take positive, informed action and decisions.
Open Carbon Literacy Courses and Train the Trainer support sessions (for people that want to roll out the training in their organisations) are running across the UK until the end of March 2023 which marks the end of the Branches of the ACE funded project. Museums Galleries Scotland (MGS) have adapted the Toolkit for delivery to museums in Scotland, running two cohorts with the first in May and then in September.Register online
