Scottish Government Publishes A Culture Strategy for Scotland
MGS to Lead on One of the Key Actions in the Strategy
The Scottish Government has launched A Culture Strategy for Scotland. MGS welcomes the Strategy’s recognition of the integral role of museums and galleries within Scotland’s rich cultural mix.
The Culture Strategy presents a vision that everyone should have an equal opportunity to experience culture’s empowering and transformative potential. MGS welcomes the opportunity given to us by the Scottish Government to lead on one of the key actions to help deliver the ambition to Strengthen Culture by building on our Skills for Success programme. To do this we will work with partners including Volunteer Scotland to diversify skills and widen access to careers and cultures across the sector.
The Strategy outlines a collaborative and inclusive approach to cross departmental working on areas such as health, education and employment.
Lucy Casot, Chief Executive of Museums Galleries Scotland, said:
“I congratulate the Scottish Government for highlighting and celebrating the diversity of cultures in Scotland. Next week, MGS will launch the Delivery Plan for the National Strategy for Museums and Galleries with Cabinet Secretary, Fiona Hyslop and there is strong alignment between both strategic documents. I am confident that Scotland’s museums will play a key part in delivering the vision outlined in the Culture Strategy to the benefit of our communities and visitors alike.”
