Tender Brief

Budget: £144,000 (including VAT) for full training provision across all lots

Museums Galleries Scotland (MGS) is the National Development Body for museums and galleries in Scotland. MGS also promote the sector’s work to the Scottish Government, stakeholders and the public, and advocate the public value and contribution of museums and galleries to society.

We invite tenders for the training provision for the NLHF Business Support Programme, ‘Surviving to Thriving’ (StT). The programme has been developed by MGS, Built Environment Forum Scotland (BEFS), and greenspace scotland to support heritage organisations in Scotland to develop sustainable business models.

The programme will deliver a comprehensive resilience and leadership training programme for approximately 40 heritage organisations (approx. 80 individuals) across Scotland. The training should be tailored to the needs of participants, focusing on four main themes of leadership, governance, business planning and community engagement.

The programme delivery will commence April 2021 and run for 18 months, with the expectation that participating organisations participate in between 20-30 days training within that time period across the four stands. Eligible organisations will be awarded a community grant to enable them to fully participate in the skills programme. It is expected that training will be delivered using a variety of methods such as small cohorts, directly at organisation’s location (where possible) and digitally.

The need for this programme of support has been strongly demonstrated through active preparatory consultation with the heritage sector against a challenging, ever evolving Covid19 landscape. Creating opportunity for organisational sustainability, strategic investment and coordinated support at this time to enable positive change has the potential to make an impact that will be felt for the next decade or more.

Designed to build resilience across Scotland’s heritage sector, StT will invest in individual and organisational capacity through a focus on building confidence and knowledge in business practice.

This project is designed to upskill and support the work of the heritage workforce across Scotland, including representatives from at-risk organisations in all fields, but with a specific focus on those organisations with tangible assets.
