Museums Galleries Scotland developed the National Strategy, 'Going Further', in consultation with Scotland’s museums sector, and it was launched in March 2012. The compelling and inclusive shared vision has greater public value firmly at its heart.
Our Board helps provide support and direction to our organisation. They bring to our organisation a wide range of skills and experience in business, academia and the cultural sector.

Applications for our 2023 Business Support Programme 'Surviving to Thriving' close at 12noon on Monday 12th December 2022. The NLHF funded ‘Surviving to Thriving’ (StT) has been developed by MGS, Built Environment Forum Scotland (BEFS), and greenspace Scotland to support heritage organisations in Scotland to develop sustainable business models.
Delivering Change is a National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) - funded project which aims to support between 70 and 100 museums from across Scotland to make changes within their organisations and programming to help all people to access culture.
The wealth generated from the systems of chattel slavery and colonialism enriched Scotland at the expense of the places which were colonised. This project, sponsored by the Scottish Government, will make recommendations for how Scotland’s involvement in empire, colonialism, and historic slavery can be addressed using museum collections and museum spaces.
